The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) announces the enclosed 2020-21 (FY 2021) final allocation amounts, based on the reduced appropriation for fiscal year 2021 for the Work-Study Student Mentorship Program (WSMP) at public and private/independent institutions. The Texas College Work-Study appropriation supports the Work-Study Student Mentorship and the Texas WORKS Internship Programs. This allocation is specifically for WSMP.

GEER: Emergency Educational Grant (EEG) Reallocation Request and Return of Funds
The “Grant Agreement using GEER Federal Funds” requires public institutions to disburse Emergency Educational Grants (EEG) to eligible students by Nov. 2, 2020. Below are two important deadlines to help ensure that all EEG funds are spent.
- Institutions have until Nov. 6, 2020, to request any reallocated EEG funds.
- Any unexpended Emergency Educational Grant funds must be returned to the THECB by Nov. 16, 2020.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) received funding through the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Fund to support Emergency Educational Grants and the TEXAS Grant, TEOG, and TEG programs. In order to receive GEER funding, institutions were required to sign a contract that includes monthly and closeout reporting provisions.

Institutions that are eligible for Title III funds from the U.S. Department of Education (ED) are exempt from the Texas College Work-Study (TCWS) and Work-Study Student Mentorship Program (WSMP) matching requirement that participating entities (e.g., institution, nonprofit employer, school district) must provide a certain percentage of an employed student's wages. To qualify for the exemption, institutions must submit a current copy of the Title III Eligibility Letter to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) is required to collect data on state campus-based programs and retain from each public institution current guidelines for administering the Texas Public Educational Grant (TPEG) program.
Enclosed is the required form that participating private and all public institutions will use to report data for the FY 2020 (2019-20) academic year.

The 2021-22 Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) is available for institutional use only. This early release gives institutions time to customize the TASFA and post it online for the Oct. 1 release to students and provide the TASFA to vendors for software updates.
