Nursing Shortage Reduction Program (NSRP) was established to address the ongoing critical shortage of registered nurses in Texas. The program provides financial support to eligible Texas institutions of higher education with professional nursing programs approved by the Texas Board of Nursing. NSRP funds initiatives that increase the enrollment, retention, and graduation of registered nursing students and strengthen the state’s nursing workforce capacity.

The Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Program will provide funding to support accredited forensic psychiatry fellowship training programs in Texas. Eligible Applicants are health-related institutions that sponsor accredited psychiatry fellowship programs.

The Autism Grant Program (AGP) supports eligible Applicants at autism research centers at Texas public, private or independent institutions of higher education that currently provide evidence-based behavioral services and training to improve and expand the treatment of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) is pleased to announce the Request for Applications (RFA) for the 2026–2028 Graduate Medical Education (GME) Expansion Grants Program.

The GME Expansion Program provides funding to establish or expand nationally accredited GME residency programs in Texas. The goal of the program is to increase the number of first-year residency positions statewide and support the state’s objective of maintaining at least 10 percent more first-year residency positions than the number of graduating Texas medical students.

The Family Practice Residency Program (FPRP) provides state-funded support to sustain and strengthen accredited family medicine residency programs across Texas. The program operates through an allocation-based funding model, ensuring predictable and equitable financial support for all eligible residency programs.

This is a Request for Applications (RFA) for the Minority Health Research Education Grant Program for 2025-2027

Planning Grants were established to increase the number of GME first-year residency positions in Texas by increasing the number of entities engaged in the training of residents. These grants encourage new partnerships between applicants and existing GME programs for the purpose of developing new residency programs. The program provides support for hospitals, medical schools, and community-based, ambulatory patient care centers in Texas interested in creating a new residency program with first-year residency positions.
