The Family Practice Residency Program (FPRP) Grant provides state-funded support to sustain and strengthen accredited family medicine residency programs across Texas to eligible programs
operated by a medical school, licensed hospital, or nonprofit corporation that has received approval to provide family physician residency training and to receive state funding for that purpose. The program operates through a formula/allocation-based funding model, ensuring predictable and equitable financial support for all eligible residency programs.

TRUE 2026 Grant Program funding will be awarded competitively through a Request-For-Applications (RFA) process. The projects proposed are required to be for career training and education programs shorter than six months in duration, industry-aligned, in high-demand fields, and developed with the participation of key workforce actors such as employers, workforce boards, economic development corporations, and trade associations.

In 2011, the 82nd Texas Legislature created the Emergency and Trauma Care Education Partnership Program (ETEP) to address the state’s need for physicians and registered nurses with training in emergency and trauma care. ETEP provides funding support for partnerships between graduate medical education programs and hospitals (as defined in Appendix A, RFA Definitions) in emergency and trauma care to increase training opportunities in the medical specialty/subspecialty areas of emergency medicine (EM), pediatric emergency medicine (PEM), and surgical critical care (SCC).

The Emergency and Trauma Care Education Partnership Program (ETEP) was established to address the state’s need for physicians and registered nurses with training in emergency and trauma care. ETEP provides funding support for partnerships between hospitals and graduate professional nursing programs (as defined in Appendix A, RFA Definitions) to increase the education and training experiences in emergency and trauma care for registered nurses pursuing graduate-level education. The program provides similar support for partnerships between hospitals and graduate medical education programs in emergency and trauma care.

The Texas Statewide Preceptorship Program (SPP) provides funding to support preceptorship experiences in primary care specialties: family medicine, general internal medicine, general pediatrics and pediatric subspecialties.
